Daily photos from the Yukon
Ravens and Fort Selkirk! Never mind that I love ravens, and love the fact that they’ve been such a huge part of our lives in the Arctic, arriving at Fort Selkirk was pure magic.
It is an amazing place, and the First Nation people who live and work there have to be some of the kindest and most generous people you’ll ever meet. We made camp there, and we explored, venturing into the woods early one morning to be surprised by not one but three great owls. Massive, they were, and impressive. Just like Fort Selkirk.
I won’t begin to pretend that I know much history of Fort Selkirk, but can point you towards the Yukon Heritage Planning website and a PDF from the Government of Yukon.
It is a hidden gem, and we would love to visit it again in the future. There’s just such a sense of peace there, and wide open spaces, and the river.
