Left Slaven Roadhouse at 11.05 after a cosy chat with Jormah and Amanda. Stopped for lunch at 13.10 after 24,2 km. We stopped at Smith public use cabin which was lucky as it started to rain a lot while we had lunch. We stayed for around 2 hours and listened to The Doors and other oldies on an old tape player which was in the cabin.

Start again at 15.20 to 16.45 and 11,9 km. We just had dinner before a thunderstorm and very dark clouds moved towards us so we escaped to our tents 20.15

I’ll never forget this day. And every time I hear Lynyrd Skynyrd sing Sweet Home Alabama I am reminded of this cabin in Alaska.
We were quite literally sheltering from a storm in a cabin deliberately left unlocked should anyone need to use it. We didn’t take anything. I can’t remember if we left anything, but we certainly enjoyed our time in the cabin.
There was an old cassette player, and after listening to The Doors, we suddenly hit upon Sweet Home Alabama, and while ‘the girls’ chatted and read at the table, ‘the kids’ danced in rubber boots around the living room. Cue rough (and very dark) video (below).
Dancing, as you all know, can be tiring. But lucky for Tiuri, there was a couch to flop on after another burst of Sweet Home Alabama.
We wrote in the guestbook, and then tidied up after ourselves to get back on the river.
