Daily photo from Greenland
I might be tempted to think this could be a promotional photo, or something ship nerds might enjoy on a postcard, but Pajuttaat meant a little bit more to me and the locals in Uummannaq Fjord. It was a lifeline, small enough to reach the settlements, while big enough to bring plenty of supplies.
You can just about make out a grey ‘thing’ to the right of the ship’s name. I think this is a pram, lowered into the water to ferry tiny containers and ‘stuff’ into land when even Pajuttaat pulled too deep a draught.
On this day in June, the fjord was clear of ice, and as you can see, it was flat as a millpond.
And picking up again tomorrow…
More Yukon River.
Here’s a teaser, complete with awful music. ;-)
